Our Journey Continues

The Royal Hotel, now known as Temperance House, has stood proudly in the heart of Burnham on Crouch, Essex since its construction in 1848. Situated in a coastal town once famed for its oyster beds, this towering four-story building is a testament to Victorian architecture.

Retaining much of its original charm, Temperance House boasts distinctive Victorian features, including large arched sash windows, ornate gargoyles, warm terracotta sunflower tiles, and authentic stained glass windows. These elements have been lovingly preserved to honor the building's rich history.

As you pass through the newly restored coach house gates and under the canopy, you are greeted by the courtyard, where traces of the past linger in the etched impressions on the red imperial brick walls. These marks serve as reminders of the days when horses were tethered by carriage drivers, their whips at the ready.

The next phase of this development

D4G will embark on landscaping of the courtyard, reconstructing the glazed Belvedere that once adorned this historic building and taking on a derelict barn. We do like to keep busy!!

Stay tuned for updates on our progress, which will be shared through our blogs.
